Together we will learn how, fraught with misunderstandings and mistrust, the incident left three British sailors and two Americans, including the captain of the American sealing vessel, Charles H. Barnard, abandoned in the barren, windswept, and inhospitable Falklands for a year and a half. With deft narrative skill and vast knowledge of seafaring life, Dolin will describe in vivid and harrowing detail the increasingly desperate existence of the castaways during their 18-month ordeal—an all-too-common fate in the Great Age of Sail.

In coordination with City of Water Day

This fun, interactive event is free to the general public and will connect residents to Long Island Sound/East River to increase the use, appreciation, and support for our local waters. Community members can participate in maritime activities such as:

• Stewardship Activities (i.e. shoreline cleanup, oyster restoration with Billion Oyster Project)

• Marine Environmental Science (i.e. shoreline exploration/seining, touch tank, water quality monitoring)

• Waterfront Community Programs (i.e. kayaking, sailing and boating with qualified skippers)

• Free fishing clinic provided by I Fish NY
